4 Signs You Chose the Wrong Texas Legal Support Services

Aug 08 2016 | posted by LORR Team

Though a quick Google search will tell you that there are dozens of Texas legal support services you can choose from, don’t make the mistake of thinking all of them are created equal. Some are new, some are old, and some offer only one or two services. More importantly, some are simply more experienced than others, and when your cases and clients are relying on the services they provide, that is the most important factor of all.

Have you been working with a legal support company but aren’t sure you chose the right one? Here are a few red flags you should look out for:

  1. You’re not getting updates on your records requests. Sometimes, records requests take a while — that’s just par for the course. But if you’re not getting regular updates on your records requests, consider it a bad sign. Your support team should be reaching out often to let you know where in the pipeline your request is, especially if your deadline is quickly approaching.
  2. They’re not improving your case. Everything a legal support service does for you should improve your case, whether that’s with expert videography, professional exhibit boards, or just a simple records request. If you don’t feel like the service is making your cases stronger and better, consider moving on.
  3. They’re making things harder on you. The main goal of litigation support is to help the attorney: to lighten their load and make their job just a little bit easier. If you’re constantly having to micromanage your support team, answer questions, or tend to their tasks, they’re not helping you at all. It’s time to kick that team to the curb!
  4. They don’t follow through. Does your support service complete the job from start to finish? After they issue a subpoena, do they return it to the court or make you do it? After a records request, do they deliver it bound, bates-labeled, and notarized? Your support team should see the task through from beginning to end, not just do one small part of it.
